OSHA has issued new Tuberculosis Directives, effective February 1996. These Directives enforce the 1994 Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, and allow for the wearing of new NIOSH-approved respirators/masks, as well as HEPA masks.

"Guarding Against Tuberculosis" has been revised to reflect these developments, including the changes in respiratory protection requirements. Since the detailed information that is required by the regulations has normally been given to employees during their initial training, retraining sessions can usually focus on things like reminding employees that they should be paying attention to the regulation in question... and heightening their "awareness" about how the regulation affects their jobs.
